Q: Why doesn’t PTT recognize Mack legacy systems (V-MAC I/II/III and ITC)?
A. PTT does not automatically identify Mack legacy systems. Clicking the Refresh button several times or restarting the PTT application will not make any difference. You must manually enter the vehicle Make and Model, and select the vehicle, before going into VCADS.
Q: Why doesn’t VCADS within PTT communicate using the Noregon DLA USB adapter?
A. There was a problem in the Noregon USB adapter DLL. To resolve the problem, download and install the latest Noregon drivers from:
http://www.noregon.com/downloads/default.asp?prodID=59
Q: Why isn’t Guided Diagnostics enabled for this vehicle?
A. Guided Diagnostics supports Volvo powered Volvo and Mack 2007 vehicles only at this time.
Q: After a GD session is finalized, why is it not possible to go back to the same vehicle session?
A. This is how GD was designed to work. However, here is a work-around. After finalizing the GD session,
1. Select another truck in PTT, using recently selected
2. Open GD
3. Go back to PTT Vehicle ID and select the 'desired' vehicle
4. Open GD
Q: Why doesn’t the 88890020 communication adapter work with PTT after upgrading to PTT V1.09?
A. In order for the 88890020 communication adapter to function properly with PTT V1.09, the firmware in the adapter must be updated to V1.11.0.0. Follow the instructions below to update the software of communication unit 88890020.
1. Open Tech Tool and choose Settings in the Tech Tool menu
2. Select the Comm. Unit Configuration tab in the Settings window
3. Select Communication unit (88890020) in the drop down list
4. Click Configuration
5. Click Update Software. A window will open in the application to instruct you through the update.
6. After the update you must unplug the communication unit for the updates to take effect.
Q: Why doesn’t the 88890020 communication adapter work with standalone VCADS Pro after upgrading the adapter firmware to 1.11.0.0?
A. After the update to V1.11.0.0, the 88890020 communication adapter will no longer function with standalone versions of VCADS Pro. In order to use the adapter with standalone versions of VCADS Pro, the 88890020 communication adapter driver on the standalone VCADS PC must be updated. The driver and instructions are available on the Premium Tech Tool web site.

Q: How do you setup PTT to communicate with V-MAC I/II/III and ITC systems?
A. The communications selections must be set to RP1210A to communicate with these systems. Go to the PTT menu and select Settings. Select the Comm. Unit Selection tab. If RP1210A adapter is not selected, select it. Select the Comm. Unit Configuration tab. Select RP1210A as the Communication Unit. Select the RP1210A device that you are using. If required, select the port number. The Protocol must be J1708. Click OK. Manually select the Mack legacy system connected. VCADS Pro can now be selected from the PTT menu to begin operations on the vehicle.
Q: When I execute Mack Data programming, why do I receive a warning “Other applications using the com port will probably not work properly while this application is running”?
A. This is a warning that when Mack Data programming is running, you cannot run any other VCADS operations. This is because Mack Data programming uses it own communication method to communicate with the systems, not the PTT communication method. When Mack Data programming is terminated, other VCADS operations will run normally.
Q: Why doesn’t Mack Data programming communicate with the vehicle?
A. Mack Data programming does not use the PTT communication settings. The communication adapter being used must be selected for Mack Data programming using the Utilities function in Mack Data programming.
1. From the Utilities drop-down menu, select V-MAC Preferences
2. On the Common tab, select the RP1210A device, port, and J1708 protocol.
3. Click Apply, then OK
Mack Data programming is now configured to communicate with the vehicle.
Q: Why is only one MID displayed in the Vehicle Information operation for V-MAC II?
A. This is normal. V-MAC II is a one ECU system. The ECU configurations for pre-V-MAC Mack IV electronic systems are:
V-MAC I two ECUs: V-MAC and FIC
V-MAC II one ECU: V-MAC
V-MAC III two ECUs: VECU and EECU
